Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:  Our growing company is currently in need of a responsible, self-driven and self-directed individual to fill the position of Facilities Manager. We are looking for a forward-thinking, multi-skilled candidate who can balance facility planning and technical maintenance, with good people skills. The successful candidate will lead and oversee the company’s facility planning and operations function, manage staff, manage office moves and manage janitorial/security duties, all while remaining in compliance with local, state and federal safety/environmental regulations. This position also serves to support various Corporate Risk Management initiatives including employee/fleet safety programs.

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee assigned staff and ensure proper safety and maintenance of facilities including minor repairs, improvement/construction projects and changes to facilities - ensuring that facilities and associated infrastructure and tooling are kept in good/safe working order and in good appeal to both employees and customers.
  • With support from Corporate Risk Management, manage facility compliance with all local, state and federal environmental regulations. Programs include but are not limited to: Hazardous Waste Management, Storm Water Pollution Prevention, Air emissions permitting, SPCC compliance, EPA hazmat disclosures, Above Ground Storage Tank compliance, DOT, Emergency Planning and Spill Prevention
  • Oversee refurbishments and renovations
  • Oversee and manage the coordination of services with outside contractors, vendors and suppliers.
  • Support Corporate Risk Management health and safety programs and associated employee/management training programs associated with OSHA and HIOSH requirements.
  • Support corporate fleet assets safety, compliance and management programs including working closely with third party fleet compliance partners and corporate Risk Management staff.
  • Support Hawthorne’s safety culture, continuous improvement initiatives and injury reduction campaigns throughout Hawthorne’s Pacific operations
  • Support the development, implementation and management of Hawthorne’s Health, Safety and Environmental Policies and programs including participating in local Safety Committee and accident investigation “learning” processes.
  • Contribute to ongoing departmental and company level strategies that directly and indirectly impact company success metrics associated with company profitability, customer experience and financial success.
  • Support and manage various Risk Management initiatives and programs as directed by the Corporate Risk Manager
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing all other duties as assigned by management.
  • Qualifications

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Business, Administration, or Engineering preferred or equivalent education/work experience.
  • Must have at least five (5) to ten (10) years relevant facilities management experience (including overseeing third party facility related service providers, vendors and suppliers): multi-facility environment preferred.
  • Safety/Environmental compliance experience desired
  • Must have a valid Drivers’ License with a good driving record.
  • Ability to travel within Hawaii up to 10% of the time.
  • Must have good communication and training skills and proper business etiquette.
  • Must be able to work independently and with all levels of management including Sr. Management.
  • Must have good working knowledge of MS Office programs.
  •  

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Walking: Moves about on foot often through uneven terrain, up / down stairs.
  • Handling: Ability to grasp and work with hands.
  • Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts, small tools, batteries and tampers.
  • Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
  • Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
  • Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.
  • Climbing: In and out of equipment and vehicles.
  • Vision: Read paperwork and files on the computer.
  • Talking: Communications by radio, phone and in person.
  • Sitting: Sits in vehicles and at desk. May sit for long periods of time.

    ENVIRONMENTAL:

  • Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
  • Temperatures/Weather: Works outside and in construction sites with variations of temperature and weather.
  • Exposure: Foul orders, fumes and harsh substances.
