Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the general direction of the General Service Manager, the Temporary Service Operations Manager achieves departmental goals by developing and implementing strategies to improve overall administrative efficiency and profitability while ensuring customer satisfaction.  Oversees the implementation of all Caterpillar initiatives for the HMC Service Department.  This position satisfies a temporary need created by the current Service Operations Manager’s leave of absence.  The existence of this position is contingent upon the continuation of that leave of absence, the termination of which will subsequently end this position.

Responsibilities

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversees all WIP (work in process) for the Main, Field and Weld Shops.
  • Develops reports/dashboards and methods to identify areas of improvement.
  • Develops strategy to improve Service Metrics, WIP, Capability & Capacity plans and Service Attributes.
  • Oversees and cultivates strategy to improve customer loyalty.
  • Manages and directs service administrative staff.
  • Responsible for improving administrative processes, including standard jobs, time keeping, invoice billing and quoting.
  • Champions identified Caterpillar initiatives and collaborates with operational groups to implement.
  • Administer employee evaluations and disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Will conduct any other duty deemed necessary by the General Service Manager.
  • Qualifications

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or three to seven years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have at least three years’ experience working in a service shop and/or parts department.
  • Must have five years’ of progressive experience in a management position.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  •  

    TESTING REQUIREMENTS:

    Applicants may be required to pass a written and/or oral examination before being considered for employment in this position.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Walking and moving about on foot often up and down stairs.
  • Handling:   Seizes, helps or works with hands.
  • Lifting: Raises or lowers items up to 60lbs.
  • Reaching:   Extends hands and arms in any direction.
  • Stooping:   Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
  • Standing:   Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.
  • Vision:       Read paperwork and records on a computer.
  • Talking:      Communications by phone and in person.
  • Sitting:       Sits for extended periods of time.
  •  

    ENVIRONMENTAL:     

  • Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
  • Temp/Weather: Works in a service shop environment.
  •
