Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Payroll Administrator in Salem, Virginia at our corporate headquarters.

As our Payroll Administrator, you will play a key role in ensuring the timely, accurate, and compliant processing of payroll. From managing complex time and earnings calculations to navigating multi-state tax regulations and regulatory reporting, your work will directly influence the overall operational excellence.
You will serve as a partner to HR, Accounting, and Operations, continuously improving payroll processes, leveraging data, and supporting projects that align with our growth trajectory and digital transformation goals. What We’re Looking For:
- Minimum of three years’ experience with processing payroll.
- Experience with UKG/Ultipro payroll system preferred.
- Experience with multi-state payroll administration preferred.
- Professional certification such as CPP, CPM, CPA is preferred, but not required.
Requirements for the Payroll Administrator position include:
- Must have knowledge of Federal payroll tax laws and State payroll tax laws for those states within which staff are employed.
- Must have a strong attention to detail in ensuring data integrity in payroll information.
- Must be familiar with processing wage attachments.
- Must be a strong communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products.
- Must be able to interact with all levels of personnel within the organization.
- Must be well organized and have the ability to prioritize workload.
- Must have the ability to work with time line constraints.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be able promote a positive customer experience.

Physical requirements must be met for the Payroll Administrator job, including regularly being required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
