Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Fleet Truck Technician. The Fleet Truck Technician is responsible for diagnosing problems, performing repairs, reconditioning and servicing fleet equipment and components in a shop environment. Seeking candidates with previous experience Caterpillar or related fleet truck service experience or completion of post-secondary diesel engine or related program. Previous diesel and gas engine experience. High school diploma or GED required.
Requirements for the Fleet Truck Technician position include:
- Self-starter able to work with limited supervision.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent troubleshooting skills; ability to accurately diagnose and repair equipment.
- Strong light and medium fleet truck vehicle operating knowledge.
- Proficient in the use of a computer, Microsoft Office products and service software required in position; able to complete service reports and provide pertinent details for work orders.
- Candidate should possess excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to read and understand operating manuals

Physical requirements must be met for the Fleet Truck Technician job, including regularly being required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 70 pounds. Starting Compensation Range: $29.26 – $36.16 per hour
Actual base pay may vary based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, education, geographic location, and other business needs. In addition to base pay, total compensation may include participation in performance-based incentive programs, such as discretionary or non-discretionary plans.
