Description
Position Overview:
Arnold Machinery is seeking a Service Manager to lead our service department. This role is responsible for overseeing the repair and setup of customer machines and internal equipment while managing department staff, financial performance, and customer satisfaction. The Service Manager will ensure smooth daily operations, effective technician supervision, and prompt resolution of customer issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the service department, including technician supervision, training, and scheduling (including after-hours assignments).
- Ensure accurate and timely invoicing; review and approve service orders.
- Address and resolve customer complaints with a strong emphasis on service excellence.
- Support business development by acquiring new service opportunities and providing repair estimates.
- Manage department financials, including budgets, gross margin targets, and expense control.
- Promote and enforce safety procedures; work to reduce workers' compensation claims.
- Maintain and supervise service truck fleet operations and inventory.
- Handle warranty claims and resolve manufacturer-related issues.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
- Frequent computer use and extended periods of sitting.
- Occasional hands-on supervision of service and clerical tasks.
- Travel to customer and vendor locations as needed (up to 6 times per year).
- Valid driver’s license required.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of higher education.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in marketing, customer service, machine setup/repairs, and/or management.
- Clean, current driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and related business software.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and performance management skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
- Solid understanding of service repair processes, inventory, and financial management.
- Business development and quoting experience preferred.
Performance Metrics:
- Administrative efficiency and customer billing rates.
- Department gross margin and overall expenses.
- Technician performance metrics: billable hours, rework rates, and cost control.
