The Director of Business Development - Global Power Provider (GPP) serves as architect and strategic leader of Carter Machinery’s Global Power Provider business initiative. The individual in this role builds, leads, and scales a growth-oriented business focused on developing and executing large-scale, multi-megawatt power projects, including rental, hybrid, distributed generation, and turnkey energy solutions within select global markets. The Director of Business Development is accountable for driving long-term business growth through strategic partnerships, market development, and execution excellence, ensuring Carter Machinery is recognized as a premier Global Power Provider within the Caterpillar network. This is a high-impact role that blends strategic vision, commercial leadership, and technical acumen in power generation, with the ability to develop projects from concept through commercial close. Seeking candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Energy Systems, or related field or equivalent education and experience. MBA or advanced technical degree preferred. Supervisory experience required. Experience with IPP, PPA, or EPC frameworks in the energy or power sector. Familiarity with Caterpillar products, dealer operations, and GPP processes. Global project experience or international market exposure. Understanding of ESG, sustainability, and decarbonization strategies in power systems.
Requirements for the Director of Business Development – Global Power Provider position include:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in power generation, energy project development, or related industries, with a strong commercial track record.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale projects (>5 MW) and complex commercial negotiations.
- Deep understanding of power generation technologies (diesel, natural gas, hybrid, microgrid, and renewable systems).
- Proven ability to build and lead multi-disciplinary, high-performance teams.
- Exceptional financial and analytical skills; ability to build TCoE models, perform ROI analysis, and manage deal risk.
- Strong business acumen, customer engagement, and relationship management skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence executive-level stakeholders.
