Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Director of Procurement in Richmond, Virginia. The Director of Procurement is a high impact role responsible for driving cost savings across the entire enterprise. The individual in this position oversees and manages supplier management, sales and operations planning, functions of materials control and procurement activities.
Requirements for the Director of Procurement position include:
- Thorough understanding of procurement concepts and practices.
- Must possess ability to communicate with public and internal personnel either verbally or in written form. Must be able to interact with individuals at all levels of the company.
- Must be able to work collaboratively across teams; strategically focused on continuous improvement.
- Strong work ethic.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
- Strong decision-making capabilities.
- Detail oriented that is analytical and data driven.
- Must be able to engage in effective and persuasive discussions on complex topics with top management and other firm personnel.
- Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
- Excellent customer satisfaction skills and ability to build strong internal/external relationships.
- Strong computer skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including the ability to accurately and efficiently use Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Frequent travel is required – overnight or out town via car or airplane.

Physical requirements must be met for the Director of Procurement job, including the ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 20 pounds in weight. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Additional duties may be assigned.
